Key Club

Key Club logo

This year the SMS Key Club will look a little different than in recent years. In the past, our Key Club has focused on serving the school, students, community, and environment, dabbling in many different smaller service projects. This year, we will be focusing mainly on a single large-scale project: Empty Bowls, which will take place at SMS on the evening of March 6. This art-based fundraiser raises money for food banks, soup kitchens, and other organizations that fight hunger.

Key Club will be limited to 30 participants, who will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis when registration opens at 6 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 13. A waitlist will be available after capacity is reached. Meetings will start in mid-January and take place every Wednesday after school. Key Club members should have a strong desire to work together and serve the community, as well as being organized and responsible with a strong work ethic.

The Key Club Commitment Pledge Form explains the expectations required for student participation.  This form should be completed by the student, signed by a guardian and returned to Ms. Mohney at the first meeting on Jan. 15 in Room 802. ( Your student received the form at school or you can print another copy here.)

When does Key Club meet? Every Wednesday from 2:30 to 4:25 p.m. starting on Jan. 15.

Is transportation provided? Club meetings end at 4:25 p.m.  An activity bus is available that leaves SMS at 4:35 p.m. and arrives at CVES at approximately 4:55 p.m. Parents will need to provide transportation to and from the Empty Bowls event on Thursday, March 6. Key Club members will be expected to arrive early to set up and stay late to clean up following the event. Exact times will be provided closer to the event date.

What are some skills/qualities required of Key Club members? Students should be organized, friendly, flexible, resilient, able to talk with adults, able to collaborate with peers of all ages, and have a strong work ethic. In addition, they will need to work with Canva, Google Slides, Google Sheets, and school email to help plan and organize the Empty Bowls event.
