Audition FAQ

What do I need to do to participate? All students must be registered online to participate in this year's drama production. This applies both to actors and students working behind the scenes as part of the backstage or tech crew.

When are auditions? After school on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Mrs. McCarty's room (room 804). Callbacks will take place on Thursday, Dec. 5, if needed. Sign up for an audition time slot online.

How can I choose which role to audition for? Students should look at the list of characters and number of lines to decide which role they are most interested in.

Where can I find audition preparation materials? Click here for a list of script excerpts and music/vocal tracks that should be used.

What is the time commitment for rehearsals and preparation? While every role (and backstage/crew position) is important to the show, larger roles such as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona will require a bigger time commitment and students in these roles should be prepared to attend most, if not all, of our rehearsals. Students who want smaller roles (not main characters) or stage crew roles should know that they will be required to attend fewer rehearsals, but we do need to know the dates and times of any conflicts so we can make the schedule.

What is the rehearsal schedule?  While all dates and times are subject to change, the following tentative dates are provided for planning purposes:

  • Dec. 9-12 (2:30-4:30 p.m.): Script read-through
  • Jan. 6-March 20 (2:30-4:30 p.m.): Rehearsals Monday-Thursday
  • March 14 (4-8 p.m.): Evening dress rehearsal at MSHS Performing Arts Center
  • March 21 & 21 (time TBD): Performances at MSHS Performing Arts Center
  • March 25 (2:30-4:30 p.m.): Cast party

Is transportation provided? After-school rehearsals end at 4:30 p.m.  An activity bus is available that leaves SMS at 4:35 p.m. and arrives at CVES at approximately 4:55 p.m. Parents will need to provide transportation to and from all evening and weekend rehearsals and performances.

How much does it cost to participate? The fee is $80 per student plus an $8 pizza cast party fee.  Fees will added to students' account on Dec. 9 and are due by Dec. 13.  No refunds will be given after this date.

Is financial assistance available?  Participation fees are waived for students enrolled in Free and Reduced-priced meals and/or the College Bound Scholarship program.  Complete the required Financial Assistance Release Form to give consent and receive financial assistance for extracurricular activities.

What if I have other questions? Contact director/producer Janelle McCarty.
