First Day of School
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 26, 2026, and there will be a special staggered schedule. We will welcome our sixth graders to SMS at 7:30 a.m. for a morning filled with orientation activities led by our eighth-grade WEB leaders.
The first day for our seventh and eighth-grade students will begin at 10:30 a.m. We will open up our doors at 10:15 for students to meet with each other either in the courtyard, commons, or the front entrance until the bell rings to begin classes.
On the first day, our teachers will begin reviewing the student handbook. Most of our policies have remained the same, including our cell phone policy, which also includes AirPods, earbuds, and headphones. As a reminder, cell phones/earbuds are not allowed to be used during school hours, including class time and passing periods. Students will be asked to leave these devices in their lockers (for sixth and seventh graders) or in their backpacks (eighth graders). Students will be able to use these electronics during lunch.
Finally, here are some important tips to make the first day of school run smoothly for your student:
-
Print your class schedule and bring it with you to school
-
If your student forgets to bring their printed schedule, or you don’t have access to one, we will have administrative and counseling staff available to help students access their schedule.
-
-
Sixth graders: Arrive by 7:30 a.m. and head straight to the gym for orientation
-
Seventh and eighth graders: Arrive by 10:30 a.m. and head to your first-period class. Please bring your charged laptops.
-
Morning bus service will be provided at the normal times for sixth graders and on a three-hour delay for seventh and eighth graders. Find your bus route here.
-
All grade levels: Bring your school supplies (binder, paper, pencils, backpack, water bottle, and yellow bus tag if you’re a bus rider).
-
Afternoon bus service will be on our regular schedule for all students, with 2:24 p.m. dismissal.
