AVID at Snoqualmie Middle School
What is AVID and why is it important?
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is an internationally-recognized, college-readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in rigorous high school coursework, in the four year college or post-secondary education setting of their choice, and in future careers.
The core of AVID is an elective class offered in middle and high school. It targets students with the willingness to work hard and the desire to excel in high school and college.
Further, AVID transforms schoolwide teaching and learning and helps schools shift to a more equitable, student-centered approach. AVID professional development trains educators in a variety of instructional practices that support all students to become more college and career ready.
